Protecting Our Community from Recruitment Scams

The modern recruitment landscape has created new opportunities; but also new risks. One concerning trend we’ve seen recently is the misuse of Motion Recruitment’s name and branding by scammers targeting individuals online. We’ve also noticed these scammers are impersonating recruiters from other well-known agencies, not just us. Fortunately, these attempts are usually easy to spot if you know what to look for.

We believe it’s important to raise awareness about these scams, share how to identify them, and provide guidance on how to stay safe.

How the Scam Works

Scammers often reach out pretending to be employees of reputable recruitment agencies, including Motion Recruitment. They may offer seemingly legitimate tasks, like designing business cards, creating a website, or completing a small freelance project, promising generous payment.

But once the work is complete, the promised payment never arrives. Instead, the scammer requests money from the victim, citing false reasons such as identity verification, taxes, or administrative costs.

Please note: These are scams. The individuals involved are not associated with Motion Recruitment or any reputable agency they claim to represent. They are simply exploiting our brands to deceive.

How to Spot a Scam

Even when scammers seem professional, there are common red flags to watch for:

  • Email Domain:
Legitimate Motion Recruitment staff will only email you from an @motionrecruitment.com.au address. Emails from Gmail, Hotmail, or any other non-company domain are not from us.

  • Unusual Communication Channels:
We do not conduct recruitment conversations via WhatsApp, Telegram, or similar messaging platforms. If someone reaches out on these apps claiming to be from our team, it’s almost certainly a scam.

  • Payment Requests:
Motion Recruitment never asks candidates for money. If you’re being asked to pay anything; upfront or otherwise, that’s a clear warning sign.

  • Location Mismatch:
We operate exclusively in Australia. If you’re being contacted about opportunities outside of Australia by someone claiming to be from Motion Recruitment, exercise extreme caution.

How to Protect Yourself

If you’re unsure about a communication you’ve received, take these steps:

  • Double-check the sender’s email address. If it’s not from @motionrecruitment.com.au, do not respond.

  • Avoid engaging on platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram.

  • Never share personal information or transfer money to someone claiming to represent us.

  • Contact us directly at info@motionrecruitment.com.au to verify any communication, or give us a call
