Scam Alert – Scammers Impersonating our Consultants
Based on recent reports, there is a significant, active scam campaign impersonating Motion Recruitment to target job seekers, particularly for remote roles.
Scammers are using our company’s name, brand, and sometimes the names of real recruiters to steal personal information and money. Please be vigilant.
Here is a breakdown of the “asynchronous interview” scam linked to Motion Recruitment:
How the Scam Works
- Initial Contact: Scammers reach out via LinkedIn, email, or messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, promising high-paying remote roles (e.g., Executive Assistant, Data Entry, Tech roles).
- The “Asynchronous” Interview: Instead of a live video call, they will often only conduct interviews via text in Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, or email, asking you to type your answers to professional questions.
- The Trap: After a quick “hiring” process, you will be asked to pay for equipment, software (like a VPN), or training, or to provide sensitive financial information.
- The Goal: To trick you into paying fees or stealing your identity.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Communication Channel: Real recruiters from Motion Recruitment do not use WhatsApp or Telegram for interviews.
- Email Domain: Scammers use non-company domains (e.g., @gmail.com) or slightly misspelled domains (e.g., @motionrecruitmnet.com). Legitimate staff only use @motionrecruitment.com.au
- Upfront Payments: Motion Recruitment never asks candidates to pay for equipment, training, or background checks.
- Too Good to Be True: Offers for high pay with very little experience required.
How to Protect Yourself
- Do Not Pay: Never send money or pay for “onboarding” fees.
- Verify the Sender: Check the email domain carefully. If it is not from an official domain, do not respond.
- Contact Directly: If you are unsure, go to the official Motion Recruitment website and contact us directly to verify the job opening.
- Report the Scam: Report the fake profile on the platform (LinkedIn, WhatsApp) and to your local fraud authority (e.g.,www.scamwatch.gov.au/).
If you have already engaged with a suspicious party, stop all communication and, if necessary, contact your bank.
