Beware of Recruitment Scams: Protect Yourself

Motion Recruitment's branding and reputation have been misused by scammers to target unsuspecting individuals. We feel it's important to address these issues and provide guidance on how to recognise and avoid falling victim to these scams

The modern workplace, particularly in the recruitment industry, has brought a host of new challenges, especially regarding cybersecurity and online fraud. Unfortunately, Motion Recruitment’s branding and reputation have been misused by scammers to target unsuspecting individuals. We feel it’s important to address these issues and provide guidance on how to recognise and avoid falling victim to these scams.

The Scam
One of the common scams we’ve come across involves unsolicited contact from individuals pretending to be employees of Motion Recruitment. These scammers might request work to be completed—such as designing business cards, creating a website, or completing a small project. They often promise lucrative payments, but once the task is finished, the supposed payment never arrives. Instead, they request funds from the worker, claiming it’s needed for identity verification, taxes, or other fabricated reasons.

Please be advised: these contacts are scams, and the people behind them are not Motion Recruitment employees. They are simply misusing our branding to deceive.

Spotting the Signs of a Scam

While some scams may seem sophisticated, there are often tell-tale signs that can help you identify fraudulent activity. Here are some key red flags to watch out for:

  • Email Domain:
    • Genuine Motion Recruitment employees will only contact you using an email address that ends with @Motionrecruitment.com.au. If you receive a message from a Gmail, Hotmail, or any other generic domain, it is almost certainly a scam.
  • Messaging Apps:
    • We do not communicate via WhatsApp, Telegram, or other messaging apps. If you’re contacted on these platforms by someone claiming to be from Motion Recruitment, it’s likely a scam.
  • Payment Requests:
    • As a job seeker, Motion Recruitment will never request payment from you. We are a recruitment agency, and we do not charge candidates. Any request for payment, especially upfront, should be seen as a major red flag.
      Geographical Location:
  • Motion Recruitment operates exclusively in Australia. If you are contacted by someone posing as one of our representatives about work that is not based in Australia, this is another potential indicator that something is wrong.

How to Protect Yourself
If you suspect you are being targeted by a scam or are unsure about the legitimacy of a message you’ve received, we urge you to take the following steps:

  • Double-check the sender’s email address. If it does not end in @Motionrecruitment.com.au, do not engage.
  • Avoid engaging with suspicious contacts via messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram.
  • Do not provide personal information or send money to anyone claiming to represent Motion Recruitment.

Contact us directly at info@Motionrecruitment.com.au to verify any communication you’re uncertain about.

Stay Vigilant
We take these fraudulent activities seriously and are working to prevent any further misuse of our name and branding. However, we also rely on individuals like you to stay alert and aware. By remaining vigilant and following these guidelines, you can help protect yourself and others from falling victim to these deceitful tactics.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe from scams.
